BRINGING YOUR PET

Shipping a pet to the Dominican Republic involves several steps:

  • Research: Look up the import regulations of the Dominican Republic for pets. Check requirements for vaccinations, health certificates, and quarantine periods.
  • Choose a pet shipping service: Find a reputable pet shipping company that specializes in international transport and has experience with the Dominican Republic.
  • Each pet must be identified through a microchip. The microchip should be ISO Standard 11784 or Annex A to ISO Standard 11785.
  • Each pet must have a Rabies vaccination and certificate.
  • All pets must have a standard Health Certificate completed by an accredited veterinarian. The certificate must be issued 15 days before the relocation and state that the pets have been free of disease for at least three months before traveling.
  • The veterinarian must evaluate your pets within 72 hours before the departure date that they are free of disease. All mentioned documents must have their stamp of approval.
  • Obtain necessary documents: Obtain a pet passport or any required paperwork from your veterinarian, including health certificates and vaccination records.
  • Flight arrangements: Coordinate with the pet shipping company to book a flight for your pet. Confirm details such as the crate requirements and any specific airline rules.
  • Quarantine (if necessary): Depending on your current country’s regulations and your pet’s health status, there might be a quarantine period either before departure or upon arrival.
  • Preparing the pet for travel: Familiarize your pet with the travel crate and ensure they are comfortable and secure for the journey.
  • Departure day: Arrive at the airport on time to check in your pet for the flight. Provide all necessary documentation to the airline and pet shipping company.
  • Arrival in the Dominican Republic: Upon arrival, customs and veterinary officials may inspect your pet and verify the required documents. Follow any additional procedures if needed.
